J.I.’s Story

Six years ago my fiance passed away leaving me with a 10 month old and a baby on the way. Prior to his passing we discussed like many others what we wanted for our children’s education which was Catholic school. It has been a struggle to keep my children at their current school. I work part time and care for my disabled mother full-time as well as my children. We fought hard for my second daughter to receive her Survivors benefits and after 5 long years of fighting we finally received the additional $200 a month. That $200 a month because it is unearned income put us over the income limits to receive any other benefits that my children need like food expenses. Having the SAFE Grant pass would mean that I would not have to choose between putting food on the table for my family or my childrens education. This is our future.
