A.J.’s Story

I am a single mother that works 40+ hours a week and my daughter is 9 years old. Our school district only gave me 2 options for my child’s education. Option 1 is 5 days a week virtual learning. While this option may work for some, it definitely doesn’t work for me. I have to go to work Monday through Friday and my child can’t stay home all day by herself to do her school work. Option 2 is go to school 2 days a week and do the virtual learning the other 3 days. Again, my daughter can’t stay home 3 days a week by herself. So that option is out. The only other option that I have is to send her to a private school 5 days a week that I cannot afford. I understand that the virus is real and precautions are important but so is my child’s education. The real options that my school district have given me is to quit my job, lose my house and not be able to feed my child or quit my job, lose my house and not be able to feed my child.
